Lagos Life Game: How to Play, Get Started and Earn Game Naira
Lagos Life game guide: play free in your browser at lagoslife.app, start as Nepo or Lapo, work jobs, pay rent and learn how Game Naira works.
What is the Lagos Life game?
The Lagos Life game is a free browser life simulation you play at lagoslife.app — no download needed, on a phone or a computer. Think The Sims set in Lagos: you create a character, find a job, earn virtual naira, pay rent, socialise with other players and visit places Nigerians will recognise.
It was created by Nigerian developer Shalom Rayhamen, who works under the name Eliy, and the game is operated by Vatar, the company where she is co-founder and CEO. Rayhamen has said the idea came from playing The Sims 3, with the viral danfo-driving game Lagos Run giving her the final push. Lagos Life went live on 1 October 2026, Nigeria's Independence Day, and BusinessDay reported it passing one million players within days. Those numbers come from the game's own dashboard and haven't been independently audited. Shortly after launch, TechCabal reported that Vatar had raised a $500,000 pre-seed round.
How to start playing Lagos Life
- Open lagoslife.app in any modern browser and tap Sign up free.
- Create your account. The terms say you may be asked for a display name, username, email, password and a man or woman selection for your avatar.
- Check the age rule. Lagos Life is officially 18+ — the terms require players to be at least 18.
- See where you start. New characters are randomly assigned a background: Nepo (born into wealth and connections) or Lapo (a harder start that relies on micro-loans).
- Mind the clock. The game runs in real time, so the virtual day follows the actual day.
Once you're in, other players share the same city, so you'll see them, chat and compete as you go.
Jobs, money and rent: the core loop
Lagos Life is about making a living. According to coverage from BusinessDay and Vanguard, you work to earn money, manage your energy, buy food and pay rent, with the long-term goal of moving into better neighbourhoods. Career paths range from banking and technology to entertainment, and you can climb levels within a career.
The official terms list a wider economy that can include businesses, property, skills, experience, investments, insurance, virtual taxes, repairs, random events and fines. They also say the developer may change prices, salaries, payouts and job requirements to keep the game balanced. That's why this guide doesn't print a salary table: any fixed figure can go stale after an update.
Our beginner advice:
- Cover rent and food first. Keep a buffer before buying anything big.
- Read job requirements before committing your time and energy.
- Upgrade in small steps. A better home is only an upgrade if you can keep paying for it.
Game Naira is not real money
Every ₦ amount in the game — cash, salary, bank balance, property value — is Game Naira. The terms and disclaimer are explicit: it isn't Nigerian legal tender, it isn't eNaira, and it can't be withdrawn to a bank account or exchanged for real money.
You can buy Game Naira with real money (payments currently go through Flutterwave), and purchases are generally final once delivered. Selling Game Naira for cash, trading accounts, and using bots or exploits are all against the rules. Early on, an exploit let some players generate huge sums; BusinessDay reported that Rayhamen reset the unfair funds, and the terms allow balances obtained through bugs or abuse to be reversed. In short: treat Lagos Life as entertainment, not a way to earn real income.
Places to visit and playing safely
Part of the appeal is local detail. Reported locations include Amala Shitta and Quilox, with Nigerian music in virtual clubs and nods to Lagos transport, food and nightlife. The disclaimer notes that layouts, distances and businesses can differ from the real places, so don't use the game as a map.
Because Lagos Life includes public chat and direct messages, keep your login private, ignore anyone offering to sell you Game Naira, and send account or payment problems to the official contact, support@lagoslife.app.
