Verity Minecraft Mod: Download, Setup and What Verity Does

Verity Minecraft — the Verity mod — is a Minecraft horror mod that adds a cheerful yellow ball with a little smile (^^) who follows you around, answers your questions and helps you survive — while a Demon, extreme darkness and other unsettling changes creep into your world. For Java Edition, download Verity JE from CurseForge and pair it with a free local AI model through Ollama; Bedrock players use a separate add-on by PnTMC.

The character comes from YouTuber ThatMob's horror series, framed as a modded Let's Play in which ThatMob discovers Verity, an AI assistant that knows a little too much about both the game and the real world. Verity JE is described on CurseForge as an official adaptation made with ThatMob's explicit permission. It is developed by VarmiteYT, and its website says it is approved by ThatMob.

As of 18 October 2026, the CurseForge project lists these main files:

The project has passed 5.2 million downloads and is marked for both client and server. Pick the file that matches your Minecraft version and loader exactly. A NeoForge build won't load on Forge, and vice versa.

The official site's setup boils down to three steps:

1. Install the mod. Set up Forge or NeoForge for your chosen Minecraft version, download the Verity .jar from CurseForge and drop it into your mods folder.
2. Set up the local AI. Install Ollama and pull a model; the mod connects to it on your own machine. The site links an Ollama setup guide.
3. Play. Load a world and Verity wakes up.

There are no API keys, accounts or cloud costs. The website says the mod is free and that support is free on its Discord. Since the mod changes how your world plays, we'd suggest trying it in a fresh world or backing up an existing save first. Running a local model also uses your own PC's resources, so a lighter model may feel smoother on modest hardware.

Here's what the official site and CurseForge page say you'll meet:

• The box: Verity spawns from its own animated box. Open it to meet your companion.
• Verity: a real AI-powered assistant that chats, answers questions and helps you survive.
• The Demon: a twisted counterpart that Verity can spawn in, or cause.
• Gameplay changes: extreme darkness and a flashlight, among others. Torches suddenly matter a lot.
• Voice: built-in speech-to-text and text-to-speech, plus custom voice support.

On languages, the two official pages differ slightly. The website lists seven (English, Spanish, Dutch, French, German, Italian and Japanese), while CurseForge says the AI handles any language but voice input and output have only been tested in English.

Bedrock players have a separate project: Verity - Bedrock Edition by PnTMC, based on ThatMob's series. It has over 15 million downloads, and version 4.0.0 targets Bedrock 26.50 (17 September 2026). It includes actual AI, voice chat and TTS, which need setting up through PnTMC's GitHub setup guide, and you must enable the Beta APIs experiment.

Its own rules give a taste of the horror: chat with Verity when he's on the ground, or say "Hey Verity" if he's in your inventory. Don't invite another friend after you've been in his world for two days, never make him angry, and remember he cannot die. If you'd rather skip the AI setup entirely, a smaller add-on, Thatmob's verity by sergey, uses scripted keyword replies instead.

• Game crashes on launch: confirm the file matches your Minecraft version and loader (Forge 1.20.1 or NeoForge 1.21.1).
• Verity never replies: check that Ollama is installed and running and a model has been pulled.
• Text works but voice doesn't: treat speech as a separate setup issue. CurseForge notes voice is only tested in English.
• Bedrock add-on does nothing: make sure Beta APIs is on and follow PnTMC's setup files.
