Azeroth Survivors: Play the Free WoW Roguelike in Your Browser
Play Azeroth Survivors free at wow.aethus.pl: WebGPU browser setup, the Windows download, all nine classes, zone unlocks and first-run tips.
How to play Azeroth Survivors
You can play Azeroth Survivors free in your browser at wow.aethus.pl, the official site run by its creator, Aethus. You need a browser with WebGPU — current Chrome, Edge or Safari — and if the site is busy or your browser can't run it, the same page links an official Windows download and the community Discord.
Azeroth Survivors is a fan-made, Vampire Survivors-style roguelike built on the World of Warcraft 1.12.1 client. It was announced on r/wowservers as a singleplayer game in alpha, so balance is still moving. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Blizzard, and you don't need a Battle.net account.
Browser requirements and fixes
WebGPU is the one hard requirement. If the game won't start:
- Update your browser. Chrome or Edge 113+ and Safari 26+ support WebGPU; Firefox only works with
dom.webgpu.enabledswitched on inabout:config. - Turn on graphics acceleration. The official site points to "Use graphics acceleration when available" in
chrome://settings/systemoredge://settings/system, plus a graphics driver update.chrome://gpushows why WebGPU is disabled. - Laptops with two GPUs: set the browser to "High performance" in Windows graphics settings.
- Black screen on first load: the first visit downloads the game world, which can take around a minute; later visits start from the browser cache.
- "Too many people are playing": this is the host's capacity message. Wait, or use the Windows build, which doesn't need WebGPU.
Classes, zones and how a run works
You pick a race, gender, class and zone, then survive waves of that zone's creatures. You only move — abilities cast themselves — and every level-up offers three upgrade cards coloured by WoW item quality, each showing the exact stat change (for example Damage 20 » 26).
The nine classes are Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Warlock and Druid, each with its own health pool and starting spell. A fan site that recorded build v0.90.0 lists Paladins starting at 245 health with a self-heal and Warlocks at 165 with a damage-over-time curse, which makes Paladin the more forgiving first pick.
Zones unlock in a chain, starting with Elwynn Forest. In that build, Elwynn's bosses arrive on a timer — Hogger at 3:00, Mother Fang at 6:00, Rhahk'Zor at 9:00, Mr. Smite at 12:00 — with Edwin VanCleef as the 16:00 finale. Beating him opens Duskwood, and the ladder continues through Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, Feralas, Gurubashi Arena, Alterac Valley and Blackrock Mountain to the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj.
Progression between runs
Runs aren't wasted when you die. According to the launch announcement, bosses drop permanent items, and each run earns talent XP you can spend to advance your class. That makes an early focus on one class sensible, because your boss items and talent progress build up over time.
Azeroth Survivors beginner tips
- Start with Paladin in Elwynn Forest. High health and a self-heal give you room to learn the boss rhythm.
- Keep moving in wide loops. Since attacks fire automatically, positioning is the whole game; standing still lets the swarm close in.
- Leave an exit. Don't chase experience into a gap you can't get out of.
- Read every card. The exact numbers make it easy to see whether an upgrade fixes what killed you last run.
- Expect changes. Fan reports note balance and difficulty have shifted between builds, so recheck older advice after updates.
The official game vs. the GitHub rebuild
A separate GitHub project, azeroth-survivors-re, is a from-source local build for personal use. It needs Rust and a roughly 5.5 GB download of a WoW 1.12.1 client, and its feature list (for example sixteen zones and an F-key movement spell) doesn't necessarily match the live browser game. For normal play, stick with wow.aethus.pl or the creator's Windows build.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Azeroth Survivors free?
- Yes. It's a free fan project by Aethus with no account or login required.
- Can I download Azeroth Survivors?
- Yes. The official site links a Windows build, which is also the fallback when your browser lacks WebGPU or the server is full.
- What are the controls?
- You move with WASD; your abilities cast on their own. You choose an upgrade card each time you level up.
- Does Azeroth Survivors work on mobile?
- Sometimes. Players report it running on iPad and Android, but weaker phones can show a black screen, and the game is built around a keyboard, so desktop is the safer choice.
